DRAFT – more of a placeholder for now
The Commission was known as the U.S. Advisory Commission on Information from 1948-1977 when it was merged with the U.S. Advisory Commission on Educational and Cultural Affairs. The State Department established the Advisory Committee on Radio Programming in 1946 to advocate and make recommendations for the VOA. This committee was disbanded with the establishment of the advisory commission.
In 1948, a Brookings Institute report recommended combining the two Commissions established by the Smith-Mundt Act. In 1977, the Commissions were combined and into the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy.
See the reports section of the Commission’s website at State.gov for a listing of Commission members at the time of each report.
